Washington Group International remains one of the world’s largest construction and engineering firms, even after a stint with bankruptcy. The group provides design and construction services for customers in the defense, energy & environment, industrial/process, infrastructure, mining, and power industries. Typical projects involve bridges, highways, manufacturing plants, mining, nuclear and power plants, pipelines, and railroads. It also operates mines and offers environmental management and facilities and operations management. Washington Group (formerly Morrison Knudsen) doubled in size by buying Raytheon’s engineering and construction unit in 2000; it declared bankruptcy in 2001, but emerged in 2002.
